A LITTLE HISTORY OF PAAL 91

Since 1840

The house dates from 1840, and was originally occupied by two families (a trained eye can still see the two front doors in the facade). We think two fishing families.

1973

50 Years ago (1973), our grandfather bought it for the family: our father was a Tesselaar, but stayed on 'the other side' (the mainland) after his studies, worked hard and wanted to spend his free time with us and his family on the island. He rebuilt the cottage, which was a ruin, including poop box outside and overgrown with ivy, with his own hands into the fine and quirky home it is today.

Now

We: sisters Anne and Jet & Gertjan and Borre now manage 'the cottage' and renovate it bit by bit; we have given it a slightly more modern and lighter twist, while retaining the old charm and tradition. This way, we make it as beautiful as possible for current and future generations.

The name

Why the name Paal 91: In a family brainstorm, we came up with the name. Beaches on the Wadden are marked with Paal and a number. Our house number is 91, so we came up with Paal 91.

The garden

The plot of land around the house is 2,110 square metres: it took a lot of effort to make it the large garden it is today, with the lawn and unobstructed views of the lighthouse, fields and dunes. Every month, our lawnmower comes by on a tractor.

We hope you enjoy the house and island as much as we do!

Below are photos from 50 years ago: how it once turned from a scrap house into a paradise:

MEET THE TEAM

Owners of Paal 91

Anne & Gertjan

Anne and Gert live in the middle of the country and have two (almost) grown-up daughters. Besides the hustle and bustle of family and work, they like to travel, preferably far away. Anne is a freelance coach and role-player. Cooking is her passion, with her favourite cuisine being Asian. Besides her passion for people in general. Gertjan is a freelance editor, is technical, loves golfing and shopping. He likes to tinker a lot, including on the house on Texel and on their new home in Loosdrecht. Almost forgot: Beagle Sid completes the family!

Jet & Borre

Jet and rediscovered childhood sweetheart Borre threw in the towel as of May 2021 and moved from Hilversum to Texel. There they live with dog Moetje in another beautiful spot near the hamlet of Oost, right next to windmill Het Noorden.
Jet and Borre both love the island, island life and travelling. Jet especially to islands, anywhere in the world. The foundation for this was laid by parents who were both islanders (Java and Texel), and of course the cottage, now the cottages, 🙂 on Texel. Jet has worked in tourism, is a marketer and basically a real planner and organiser: preferably always busy and on the go. Borre has a lot of knowledge and interest in real estate and management. Together with sister Anne and brother-in-law Gertjan, we manage Paal 91; a nice challenge to shape the cottage to our ideas and dreams.
